A Cat in the Hat Cake for my birthday, Mountain Mondays and a Giveaway!

A Cat in the Hat Cake for my birthday, Mountain Mondays and a Giveaway!

I could not let those of you down that might have come to my site today looking for a post for Mountain Mondays.  Therefore, I have included this beautiful picture that was taken this past weekend at sunrise.  The leaves have started to change and it was very chilly the last few days.  Fall is definitely with us in the North Carolina mountains!

However, today is my 50th birthday, so I have decided to do an insane post to have some fun because it’s my birthday and I can do what I want to!

I made a cake that was a real pain in the butt to make a very special cake for this occasion!  You may wonder why I would make a cake that is normally for children and not old folks.  If you read on, you will know why!

I can't believe I made this! What was I thinking?

My 50th Birthday Rhyme

Today is my 50th.
It is sad, but still true.
So now it is time to send in
Thing One and Thing Two!

These two are nothing but trouble!

For the last eight years
I’ve heard and been told,
That at age 50 I’ll be traded
For two twenty-five year olds!

Mr. B has made fun
Of the fact that I’ll turn 50
By suggesting a trade for
Two young things that are nifty.

If you know the Cat in the Hat,
And I bet we all do.
Do you recall the mess made by
Thing One and Thing Two?

He's trouble, too!

They ran through the house
“With big bumps, jumps and kicks”
And with all sorts of trouble
“And all kinds of bad tricks!”

The things that they knocked over
And the things that they hit,
Mr. B would not like this
Not one little bit!

The clothes they would buy and
The frivolous goodies,
Like stilettos and handbags
And diamond studded hoodies!

It's falling...falling!!!

It may be amusing to
Watch it unfold
But, Mr. B will soon tire
And this too will get old.

Mr. B was just kidding
Or at least I think that is true
So there will not really be
A Thing One and Thing Two.

I just wanted to have fun
For my big birthday bash
So, I made this crazy cake
And after pics, it totally crashed!

What an icky mess!

It was fun to bake the cake
And interesting to do a rhyme
But, you won’t see this again,
It is definitely the last time!

The end! (Thank Goodness!)

I just wanted to have a little fun for my 50th birthday. A woman girl has to do something to ease the pain on a big day like today!  Better to laugh than to cry!  Maybe I should have one of these or these to celebrate?!  I have not totally lost my mind yet, but I am certainly on my way!

Now, for the really good part…there is a GIVEAWAY!  Since I am feeling pretty old generous today, I would love to give away a present!  Do you remember those awesome swag bags from Food Blog Forum Atlanta?  I will be giving one of those Whole Foods bags away (stuffed full of goodies!) to one of Bunkycooks’ readers.

Remember all of these awesome swag bags???

I sure wish I could win one of these for my birthday! ;-)

Regretfully, due to the weight and contents of this bag (things that break easily), I can only ship to a winner in the U.S.  I apologize to my readers that live outside of the U.S.

My favorite birthday cake is simple: yellow cake with chocolate icing. But I would actually prefer an apple pie over a cake. Happy Birthday my friend! You made a wonderful cake, and I loved reading your Dr. Seuss rhyme. And yes, of course I am a subscriber…you are one of my favorites! Thank you for sharing and happy birthday again!

First, HAPPY HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!! It looks like you know how to celebrate! That cake is just insane… in a truly fantastic way.

My favorite birthday cake was a Cake Bible chocolate cake my mom made for me for my 5th birthday. She decorated it with the Ghostbusters logo. I think it took her at least two days to make the thing and it was delicious.

My favorite birthday cake was one that the Grand Floridian Bakery (at Walt Disney World) made me for my 25th birthday. It was a mad hatter style cake and alice in wonderland themed. The cake was marble cake with bavarian cream filling and was 6 layers of cake and 5 layers of filling. My parents surprised me with it and it was beyond amazing!!! SOOOO good!

For my last birthday, I had a monster party. My friends and I all dressed up as monsters, gathered a bunch of big cardboard boxes, and built a city in the front yard. Then, being monsteds, we destroyed it. Afterwards, we ate a cake that resembled the planet earth, complete with a red velvet interior, representing the molten core.

Happy birthday to you… sorry I’m late but I have an excuse you might relate to. The memory is slowing going, and I’m considered releasing Thing One and Thing Two in my house as well. You see I’ll be fifty on Monday. Ah it’s not so bad just a bit slower :)

Your cake is fabulous and poem a riot!!!!!

    Hey Gwen :)

Wow! I have missed a lot here huh? Been having so much on my plate lately – but glad I caught your birthday post :) even if I did miss the actual day. I hope you had a fantastic day (the cake sure must have been fun!) and uh…..Happy 50th!!!

Great giveaway – wish I could participate!

I felt so lucky to get one of those bags at FBF Atlanta. Seriously, you guys, it’s full of the best stuff! My friends and I killed most of it that very night, especially the Bella Cucina stuff. I’m not entering to win another bag (better to spread the good fortune around to someone who hasn’t had one yet), but my favorite birthday cake is dark chocolate with peanut butter frosting! I need to post something about that cake soon. Just thinking about it is making me wonder why I’m not baking it right now.

I am glad I caught this post. A very Happy Belated Birthday to you Gwen! I like your rhyme :) My boys really enjoyed Cat in the Hat when they were little and we had all the books and videos. That was certainly a cute cake you made.

My favorite cake? Probably the German chocolate or the exotic pandan layered cake…..really yummy!

Bravo! Happy birthday. I didn’t realize that we’re the same age (though I am about 6 months younger than you! can you make one of those for my birthday? :)

My favorite cake is cheesecake, maybe with a hint of white chocolate, but nothing else. It’s what we had at our wedding and what I could eat every day for breakfast and dinner (nothing beats cheesecake with coffee).

Your cake was amazing. I wouldn’t even attempt something that extraordinary. Kudos to you on the culinary work of art as well as the poetic masterpiece.
